As you have now passed a big milestone from babyhood to toddler-hood (although you are not quite toddling on your own yet), I thought it would be best to write a letter to you that describes your day, your accomplishments, and things that you love. With no further ado here is the update on our Baby John, Johnny Boy, Little Guy, Momma's Boy :) ...
Your Day...
- Lately, it begins somewhere between 5:30-6 am with a hungry little guy. You nurse for about 20 minutes and then go right back to sleep (I would love to curb this little habit soon). I do love the days though that you sleep in until at least 6 am!! (hint hint...)
- The second awakening is between 7-8 am. With a smile. A huge one!
- On Mondays, both kids are home with Jeff. On Tuesdays, I get both you and your sister ready to go to Julie's house and drop you both off between 7:45-8 am. I am home on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, I get both of you ready and my parents pick you both up at 7:30 am (see below some special happenings on Thursdays). On Fridays, I pick you and Addie up from my parents around 11:30, as you both usually spend the night because I work on Friday morning. This also gives Jeff & me Thursday evening to go to our church small group or have a date night).
- On days that both kids are home with either Jeff or me, breakfast is usually around 8:00 am and consists of pureed fruit and oatmeal. You have not quite transitioned to non-baby food just yet.
- On Thursday mornings, you and your sister go to breakfast at Bob Evans with my parents and aunt & uncle. I have heard that it is a very special time! Often times, breakfast is followed up with a visit to my grandma's house in either the afternoon or Friday morning as well.
- Then we either play or run a few errands with your big sister. You love to play with your sister's toys and as long as she is in a "sharing" mood, the two of you have a lot of fun. Just this morning, she wanted to read you one of your books - it was such a special moment. If you aren't sitting still, you are crawling around looking for something to get into or surfing on the furniture. Ever since you learned to move, you have been on non-stop active! The boy is busy!
- You take a nap between 9-10 am and will sleep anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours!
- You eat lunch usually around noon with Addie. You like to eat fruit and veggies.
- After lunch is nap. You are a solid napper, from like 1-3 pm (or so)...it really depends on how long the morning nap was.
- After nap time, we usually do more playing. Sometimes we even take a walk in the neighborhood, which you love. You love to chill in the stroller! Even on his most cranky days (which are rare), you get very calm in the stroller. It must be a favorite!
- We eat dinner between 5:30-6 pm, it all just depends on who worked that day and whether we picked you guys up from Julie's or my parent's.
- After dinner we play as a family.
- The kids get a bath every-other night, so if it is a bath night we all head upstairs with Daddy for "bath time fun." John loves taking a bath with Addie. And the two of you are quite cute splashing around in the bubbles!
- I nurse you one more time before bed. During that time, either I or Daddy read him (and Addie) a book (or 2-3 depending on how tired John is), say a quick prayer, sing a song, and the little man is diving for his crib by 8:00 pm.
- Sits without support
- Drags objects toward himself
- Crawling: Check...Although I loved the day that the army crawl transitioned into the real crawl. You are now all over the place!
- Jabbers or combines syllables: You love to "talk." Between you and Addie, we sometimes can't get a word in edgewise
- Starts to experience stranger anxiety: Double Check...You are not very excited to go to other people and usually loves to be held by me, even over Jeff
- Waves: You started to wave to your grandma at your birthday party when you saw her in the dining room as you were sitting by me in the kitchen. Now, you wave often, but not all of the time.
- Stands while holding onto something: You started pulling yourself to standing in June and now most of the time on your feet is where you are!
- Understands object permanence: Yep - you love to drop objects while sitting in a highchair so that we have to pick it up for you.
- Says "mama" or "dada" to the correct parent: You sure do. Nothing is cuter when I see you look at me and say "mama." Addie will also tell me when you say it. "He's saying mama!"
- Plays peek-a-boo: You do like to play this, sometimes even with Zoe.
- Takes a few steps: Not by yourself yet, but you do zoom along behind either your "lion car" or your dinosaur!
- Understands "no" and simple instructions: Yes, I think you do understand this, although you definitely don't like when Addie says it!
- Climbs steps: You climb up steps independently. You surprised me one day half-way up the stairs and it became gate time at our house!
- playing in water! You had so much fun going to pools this summer :) and LOVE taking baths

- not yet transitioned from bottles to sippy cups. You stil lare breastfeeding in the morning and in the evening. You drink whole milk at lunch time. The transition from breastmilk to whole milk was a non-event. Although you still like your milk (wherever it came from) to be warm! We have always called you a "milk snob!"

- a total handful! But I absolutely love this boy to pieces!! Even when you are frustrating me, it is hard to stay angry because he has the cutest face ever. Your smile just melts my heart
Just to be a tad nostalgic - Let's take a quick look at photos to see how much my most favorite little boy has grown and changed in his first year!!
Your weight when you were born was 5 pounds 7 ounces. At 12 months, you are still small on the scale: 16 pounds 4 ounces. You are 28.25 inches in length. You are under the growth curve, but you are growing very well on the curve that you have made for yourself. Your pediatrician says you are a very perfect, healthy little boy!
